# Trigger IFTTT applets on a schedule

Run [IFTTT](https://ifttt.com) Webhooks applets on a precise cron schedule, or once at an exact time, with values filled in from any API. Use it to drive smart-home scenes, spreadsheets, and the hundreds of services IFTTT connects to.

## Example: turn on the porch light at sunset-ish

```json
{
  "name": "Porch light on",
  "cron": { "expression": "30 17 * 11-12,1-2 *", "time_zone": "America/Toronto" },
  "nodes": [
    { "id": "light", "ifttt_trigger": {
        "event": "porch_light_on",
        "credential_id": "YOUR_IFTTT_KEY_ID",
        "value1": "{{ format(now:America/Toronto, \"hh:mm A\") }}" } }
  ]
}
```

## Set up

Connect the **Webhooks** service in IFTTT, copy your key from its settings page, and save it as an `ifttt` credential. Create an applet with **Receive a web request with a JSON payload** (or **Receive a web request**) as the trigger, using the same event name.

## Reference

### Run an IFTTT applet: `ifttt_trigger`

**Sends** POST `https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/<event>/json/with/key/<key>`. **Output** for the next step: IFTTT’s response.
